Yes! Great tip. Was trying to get gpodder to run in openbox,and it was saying:

(process:1777): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback ‘C’ locale.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “/usr/bin/gpodder”, line 201, in

(….)

return _setlocale(category, locale)
locale.Error: unsupported locale setting

Tried a load of tips but your was the one.

Even after doing as you mentioned above it did not worked for me.
